Laver Cup

The Laver Cup is an exciting new tennis team competition between Europe and the rest of the world that features 12 top‑ranked players on the men’s tour. The event is named after Australian legend Rod Laver, who dominated tennis in the 1960s. The teams will have as their non-playing captains two revered tennis rivals of the 1970s and 1980s: Björn Borg of Sweden, leading Team Europe, and John McEnroe of the US, for Team World. Contested over three days, the Laver Cup comprises three singles and one doubles match each day.

For nine days, 56 players battle it out before a best-of-three final decides the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters champion. Dating back to 1897, this prestigious tournament, held since 1928 at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, is a highlight on the international tennis circuit. The setting – with its twenty courts on terraces overlooking the Mediterranean – is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. For over a century, the sport’s greatest players have gathered on its red clay courts perched between sea and sky.

The Californian desert provides a beautiful backdrop for the BNP Paribas Open. Each March, the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, located about 200 km from Los Angeles, hosts the first of nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events, offering the winners 1,000 ranking points. Its facilities are immensely popular with both players and spectators. Voted ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year from 2014 to 2016, attendances of 450,000 make it the most patronized outside the four Grand Slam® tournaments.

He reached an ATP high ranking of world No. 7 in 2016, and has won eight singles on the men’s professional tour.  The eldest son of two tennis coaches, Thiem is determined to do whatever it takes to win the sport’s greatest titles.  The young champion has reached the echelon of the world’s top players, a level where he intends to stay.

France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s first big breakthrough came in 2008 when he reached the finals of the Australian Open. His consistent performances at the first Grand Slam® tournament of the year took him to the quarter-finals in 2009, 2013 and 2017; and the semi-final in 2010. Tsonga is a veritable powerhouse whose playing style, speed and agility make him a challenging opponent for any competitor. Tennis powerhouse Grigor Dimitrov has quickly made a name for himself on the international tennis circuit. The young Bulgarian player’s top-15 ranking and good tournament performances have made him a leading contender at the highest level of the sport. After reaching his first Grand Slam® semi-final at Wimbledon in 2014, a feat he would repeat at the 2017 Australian Open, Dimitrov went on to win the Acapulco title, showcasing his fluid style as he glides across the court.

Former world No. 3 Milos Raonic is one of the top talents in professional tennis. His 2016 season brought him to the semi-finals at the Australian Open and the finals at The Championships, Wimbledon.
